Dear Zindagi may well be an Alia Bhatt film but it also will be a litmus test for Shah Rukh Khan who has had a lean run at the box office. Let’s see how the film stands poised a day before its release.
Being a solo release at the box office tomorrow, the movie has managed to grab an average of nine to 12 screens per multiplex. While it is not close to the numbers that one normally sees for a SRK film, it should still give the movie a good opening in the weekend.
The movie is packed with stars. Apart from Alia Bhatt and Shah Rukh, there is Kunal Kapoor, Angad Bedi, Aditya Roy Kapoor and others. Also Pakistani actor Ali Zafar is a part of the film and it would be interesting to see how much of his role has been retained in the film in the aftermath of the protests post the Uri attacks.
The combination of Alia Bhatt and SRK
Alia and SRK’s pairing have generated much buzz. The fact that they are not romantically paired opposite each other makes it a much more exciting prospect to watch. It remains to be seen if Alia can hold up her own in front of the formidable Khan onscreen.
She is one of the most exciting female directors on the block. While her debut English Vinglish was a runaway hit, one will have to wait and watch how well she has treated this movie which is about life among other things. Given her sensibilities for making good and meaningful cinema, one wouldn’t be way off the mark to expect a good cinema.
The tunes of the movie have been a disappointment with no song generating any craze among masses till date. And that seems to be the only negative as far as Dear Zindagi is concerned.
