This weekend witnessed a clash between two of Bollywood’s most talented actors, Rajkummar Rao and Irrfan Khan. And while Irrfan’s Qarib Qarib Singlle saw an opening of Rs 1.75 crore at the box office, Rajkummar’s Shaadi Mein Zaroor Aana was not far behind. The film which also stars Kriti Kharnbanda collected Rs 1.64 crore on its first Friday and by the end of the first weekend the film had earned Rs 7. 46 crore.
A solid word-of-mouth could actually turn the tables for Rajkummar Rao’s romantic drama. More so because it marks his fifth film this year after Trapped, Behen Hogi Teri, Bareilly Ki Barfi and Newton. With such roles, he has managed to gain a fanbase of his own. Hence the film is expected to cover the basic budget of the film in the following days.
Shaadi Mein Zaroor Aana is helmed by Ratnaa Sinha. However, it is also facing some tough competition from films that released last weekend, namely Hollywood’s Thor: Ragnarok. But even though Rajkummar Rao plays his usual small-town lover boy in this flick, what seems different here is the stark twist the plot takes when Kriti runs away from her wedding.
Talking about working with Rajkummar, Kriti said in an interview earlier, “I think I have learnt how to be a good co-actor because he is really the one. I heard people saying how in a Rajkummar Rao film, people only watch him in the frame and he could overshadow others. But I must say, he is such a good co-actor who always lets you act your best, because acting also has a lot depending on reacting.”
