This Diwali, Rohit Shetty returned with his popular comedy franchise, ‘Golmaal Again’. It was obviously the best Diwali gift for all the actors, Ajay Devgn, Tabu, Parineeti Chopra, Arshad Warsi, Tusshar Kapoor, Shreyas Talpade, Kunal Khemmu, Prakash Raj, Neil Nitin Mukesh, Mukesh Tiwari, Sanjay Mishra, Johny Lever, Vrajesh Hirjee, and Ashwini Kalsekar who feature in the comedy series. Among various other comedy franchises, Rohit Shetty’s ‘Golmaal’ franchise remains popular among Bollywood audience. After completing one week at the box office the film earned Rs 136.07. It is all set to become the second highest grosser of 2017, after SS Rajamouli’s Baahubali: The Conclusion.

“#GolmaalAgain packs a REMARKABLE ₹ 136.07 cr in Week 1… All set to be the SECOND HIGHEST grosser of 2017 today [Fri], after #Baahubali2…,” Taran Adarsh tweeted.

“#GolmaalAgain Fri 30.14 cr, Sat 28.37 cr, Sun 29.09 cr, Mon 16.04 cr, Tue 13.25 cr, Wed 10.05 cr, Thu 9.13 cr. Total: ₹ 136.07 cr. India biz,” he added.

As ‘Secret Superstar’ is only touching the Rs 50 crore mark, the public superstar Ajay Devgn is happily raking in all the moolah. The festival of Diwali had been one of the factors that lead to the rise of the film. Festive seasons are the times when audience prefer to watch comedy, masala films with family over films with serious issues. Films with an element of comedy are preferred more during the time of festivals. The success of Varun Dhawan’s ‘Judwaa 2’ during the Dusshera, lies as another concrete example.

The success of ‘Golmaal Again’ was another major moment for Ajay Devgn and Parineeti Chopra who were earlier seen in ‘Baadshaho’ and ‘Meri Pyaari Bindu’ respectively. Both the films have failed to shine at the box office. Ajay Devgn’s ‘Baadshaho’ had clashed with ‘Shubh Mangal Saavdhan, back then as the latter performed better than the former.

Film critic Shubhra Gupta may have given the film only two stars, but in her review, she seemed to submit the fact that there was something about Rohit Shetty’s film this time which had freshened things up. “For someone like me, no fan of the franchise, there’s usually very little to like in the ‘Golmaal’ films. And this time around too, I had resigned myself to a couple of hours of deja-view. But I have to say that the addition of a few new faces, and moving the location from the beaches of Goa to the green slopes of Ooty, helped freshen things up. And though there were the familiar risible lines about people who can’t speak, and a creepy running thread about older men and girls young enough to be their daughter, the usual slew of jokes were not as tasteless. A couple led to actual laughter,” she said.
