Daddy’s first teaser is out and one has to say Arjun Rampal’s transformation into gangster Arun Gawli onscreen is nothing short of marvellous. While the movie is based on the life and times of the dreaded don, Arjun is quick to clarify that Gawli never wanted his portrayal to be heroic or glamorous. “When I met Arun briefly after he was out on parole, he told me don’t portray me like a hero. That is not what I want. What I have done is done. I have served my time and punishment for it,” revealed Arjun.
While Gawli’s name is enough to send shivers down the spine of many even today, Arjun found him to be a soft-spoken and polite man in real life. “Everyone has a different opinion about him. The public has an opinion, police have an opinion, the government has an opinion. I found him to be a very normal and soft-spoken man which an exact antithesis of everything anybody else was saying about him. He was very well-mannered. I found him to be a simple and endearing person. ”
Talking about the intention behind making Daddy, Arjun said, “We make a film because we believe in a story and think it will be an interesting watch. You don’t have to necessarily get into preaching every time you make a film. In that case, one should write a book or documentary which people will come and watch and learn. If your characters are real, you take a lot out of them.”
Sharing what he learnt from Gawli’s life, Arjun said, “I have learnt a lot about circumstances and what it can do to individuals and how lucky certain people while some are unlucky.” For Arjun, getting Gawli’s physical look right was the first major challenge. While he shed nine kilos for the role to achieve the slim look, the actor also did a few things to look as short as Gawli who is 5’3″ in real life.

“We wanted to get the physicalities right to the T. Gawli is shorter than me. We have done a few things to make me look small,” said Arjun without disclosing the things he did to look shorter.
