Veteran actor Anupam Kher, who was appointed Chairman of the prestigious Film and Television Institute of India (FTII) on October 11, said he will try to perform his duties to the best of his abilities. He took to Twitter and wrote, “I feel deeply humbled and honoured to be apportioned as the Chairman of iconic FTII. I will perform my duties to the best of my abilities.”
But it is not just him who is celebrating the news but also his co-stars, actors and filmmakers who have expressed their expectations from him. Manoj Bajpayee, who recently shared the screen space with Anupam Kher in Naam Shabana, said that he feels Anupam would be able to get back the lost glory of FTII.
Talking to indianexpress.com, Manoj Bajpayee said, “I am very happy that Anupamji has been appointed as FTII chairman. He himself comes from a drama school and has the experience of heading an institute like National School of Drama. He has a great experience and will surely bring back the lost glory of FTII. It is a really good news for the students as well. It is a one of a kind institute which has a great record of producing the best people in all section of filmmaking. I am sure Anupam Kher would get geniuses in every department and the institute will yet again see good days.”
The FTII was being headed by Gajendra Chauhan, whose tenure came to an end in March this year. Reacting on Anupam’s appointment as FTII chairman, Gajendra told IANS, “I convey my good wishes to him and I want to move on in life. In FTII, it’s more important to be a good administrator than a good actor.” However, when we question Manoj about what he has to say on this, the actor quipped, “I can’t comment on that but all I know is Anupam Kher is senior, experienced and trained as a teacher and an actor.”
Veteran actor Paresh Rawal tweeted, “Congratulations Shri @AnupamPkher ji, for being appointed as @FTIIOfficial chairman.”
Filmmaker Prakash Jha wrote, “Welcome step! After @prasoonjoshi_ @AnupamPkher !! Moving in the right direction.. Thank you for this @smritiirani”
