Akira starring Sonakshi Sinha has apparently failed to impress the audience. The box office numbers on Friday and Saturday clearly reflect the film’s poor performance. Despite any other major Hindi movie releasing along with Akira this weekend, it failed to cash in on the opportunity. Trade analyst Taran Adarsh wrote,”
#Akira shows 16.98% growth on Sun… Fairly good trending… Fri 5.15 cr, Sat 5.30 cr, Sun 6.20 cr. Total: ₹ 16.65 cr. India biz.”
The movie is expected to earn Rs 2-3 crore on Monday considering its poor performance at the box office during the weekend. The film is reportedly made at a budget of around Rs 30 crore.
Akira is a major film for Sonakshi Sinha as the actress is seen in a new avatar. Sonakshi has rarely done women-oriented movies. Hence, Akira is crucial in her career. The film also stars Anurag Kashyap in a major role.
“I will act only if I get enough money, otherwise, I don’t have any intention to act in movies. I will do acting only if my character is good or someone gives me an obscene amount of money that solves my other problems,” Anurag said in an interview.
“I don’t want to make a career as an actor. I don’t mind acting, but my focus is on making films. To take up more offers, I should have time and when I have time, the story and the role have to be good,” he added.
Indian Express critic Shubhra Gupta wrote in her review,” Akira (Sonakshi Sinha), no relation to Kurosawa, makes the journey from a colourful Rajasthan ‘chota shehar’ to ‘mahanagari’ Mumbai, and runs slam-bang into a convoluted plot involving a murder and missing cash and a bunch of corrupt cops, headed by the vicious ACP Rane (Anurag Kashyap, enjoying himself hugely and being extremely effective, even if very far from a Marathi-speaking native: I wouldn’t like to meet Rane in a dark alley).”
