Aishwarya Rai Bachchan has always been the icon of beauty. We have seen her winning the Miss World contest and walking several red carpet events like Cannes. This makes her the perfect bet for being a global name. And going by her performance in her latest film Ae Dil hai Mushkil, it’s been almost a decade and she is still as radiant as ever.
What if we tell you that way before she got involved with Hollywood projects such as Pink Panther, Bride and Prejudice, The Mistress Of Spices, Journey Across India, the beauty queen was already ruling the television screens all over South Africa? And along with her was another enchanting Bollywood beauty, Sonali Bendre. In a television commercial, we stumbled upon, the two are prancing through the exotic gardens of the East. As much as the set-up looks like that of a film set, the two ladies are actually endorsing an ethnic clothing brand called Radha’s.
Much like a regular 90’s advertisement, this ad features Aishwarya and Sonali and other Indian beauties impeccably decked up not for a fashion show or to walk the ramp or to pose for the covers of Vogue but to venture out into the jungle. That’s right. Next time when you wish to go for a vacation at Corbett or Sundarbans, make sure you pack your best-branded sarees because that’s what you need when you are walking amidst huge trees and muddy paths!
What cracked us up, even more, was the voice over in a foreign accent. Radha’s became ‘Radars’, Punjabis became ‘Pinjabis’ and the models’ obsession with peacock feathers. The outfits keep changing within every few seconds, but the feather in their hands remained constant.

Nevertheless, this vintage advertisement does bring back memories of the nostalgic 90’s we grew up in and the television shows we watched then, only to laugh at them now.
