Ae Dil Hai Mushkil’s The Breakup Song finally released on Thursday after Karan Johar and Ranbir Kapoor teased us with it for days. And when it finally landed on Twitter today (October 13), Karan Johar, Anushka Sharma and music composer Pritam had a rather interesting caption to go with it, “Celebrating breaking up is the new cool.”

Oh alright but wasn’t this film about the pain of unrequited love?
But moving ahead, in itself, is a good looking song. Anushka Sharma and Ranbir Kapoor are celebrating breakup and they look like two best friends who are in the middle of a good party and the agenda of today is to celebrate breakup.
But look a little deeper and The Breakup Song is no Bulleya, Channa Mereya or Ae Dil Hai Mushkil title track. That rare quality where a song touches your heart and leaves a mark is missing in the fourth song of Karan Johar’s film. If anything, you end up noticing striking similarities of this song with Yeh Jawani Hai Deewani.
The moment the video starts, you see Ranbir Kapoor in his ‘Badtameez Dil’ mode, only a better version of it. Our one big grouse is that Anushka Sharma is there on the screen but the bubbly personality she brings with her is sadly missing.
Pritam as a music composer has done just fine, this composition will surely remind you of the desi touch he gave to Balam Pichkari from YJHD. In most of the songs these days, rapper Badshah is the anchor, which helps the ship from sinking but in this song, he could have done better.
Karan Johar’s attempt to give you a song for breakup will not be able to touch your hearts as the other numbers from Ae Dil Hai Mushkil’s album. Well, you decide for yourself by listening to the song here:
The filmmakers have earlier released three songs from the film, Ae Dil Hai Mushkil (title track), Bulleya (featuring Aishwarya Rai Bachchan and Ranbir) and Channa Mereya (featuring Anushka and Ranbir). The trailer and songs from the flick have been doing really well on various platforms. Directed by Karan Johar, the film is about one-sided love, breakup and friendship. It will release on October 28.
