It will be a clash of two big titans at the box-office with Ae Dil Hai Mushkil and Shivaay locking horns this Diwali weekend. And making this head-to-head fight even stevens is almost equal number of screen numbers both movies have received. Almost because ADHM still has an upper hand having received more screen numbers in terms of multiplexes. Let’s see how the Diwali battle will play out
This will ultimately decide the numbers. More the screen numbers, more will be the collection in the first weekend which also happens to the Diwali weekend. Ae Dil Hai Mushkil seems to be winning the race here with a slight margin. The movie will be opening on 10 to 12 screens in majority of multiplexes across Mumbai. A few bigger PVRs have even 14 shows on one single day. At single screen Chandan in Juhu, the movie has staked claim on the opening and closing shows, which means more crowd will come trooping in. Shivaay, on the other hand, has managed to grab an average of 9 to 10 screen numbers per multiplex. At Chandan, it will be played in the afternoon and evening sections.
Thanks to MNS, ADHM ended up getting mired in some unwanted controversy that kept the film buzzing for almost a month. Fawad Khan may not return to India again in the near future but his minor presence in the film gave ADHM humongous publicity that would have otherwise not been possible. And thanks to that, excitement among masses is at an all-time high to watch the film. Shivaay too had its share of controversies when Ajay Devgn released an audio that had self-proclaimed critic KRK claiming that he had been allegedly been paid Rs 25 lakh to tweet positively about ADHM at the expanse of Shivaay. The controversy died down soon after Pakistani actors ban issue took over.
Ajay Devgn v/s Ranbir Kapoor
Ajay Devgn is the bigger superstar if one were to go purely by the track record. Not that he has not delivered duds in the past but for every Action Jackson and Himmatwala, there has been a Singham Returns and Drishyam. Ranbir Kapoor, on the other hand, is thirsty for a box-office hit after a string of failures. His career has hit rock bottom as has his personal life. On the scale of acting, both are equally balanced.
Director’s cut – Karan Johar vs Ajay Devgn
KJo wins this one hands down. He is back doing what he is best at with a genre that he is absolutely comfortable directing. Back after a long hibernation, KJo would be looking to leave a long-lasting impact. Ajay Devgn’s track record as a director is not exactly inspirational. His directorial debut U Me aur Hum (2008) had tanked at the box-office. With Shivaay, it remains to be seen how well he has tackled this action thriller set in snow-capped mountains.
If intrigue is the key to build a great buzz, Shivaay has managed to do that till now. The trailer looks exciting, the action looks top class filmed in the scenic Bulgaria. No one knows what exactly the story is or who the main villain Ajay is battling against. Not to forget the presence of a cute kid in the movie that will keep the young audience excited.
While it will be a bit too premature to comment on Ae Dil Hai Mushkil as the makers have only released a small teaser, the movie seems to be a love triangle from the looks of it. We hope it is not the usual cliches.
The A factor of Ae Dl Hai Mushkil – Aishwarya Rai Bachchan and Anushka Sharma
Aishwarya Rai Bachchan and Anushka Sharma are big names to get you footfalls in theatres. Add Ranbir Kapoor, SRK and Fawad Khan to the cast and you have the best cast of 2016 in one single film. On paper, Karan has managed the best A-list casting coup of recent times.
Ajay Devgn is the lone big name in the film. One needs to wait and watch to see who the man pitted against Ajay is. If he happens to be someone equally powerful, the scales will be well-balanced.
If the teaser of Ae Dil Hai Mushkil has received a great response on social media, it is because of the genius of the new Mozart of Bollywood, Pritam. Suffice to say the title track has caught the imagination of the viewers.
Shivaay, on the other hand, is yet to spin out some arresting melody.
