Ae Dil Hai Mushkil was expected to create magic at the box office. And this is exactly what happened. In spite of Dhanteras and pre-Diwali celebrations, the film had an opening collection of Rs 13.30 cr. The month-long controversy that this Karan Johar’s film faced, did not affect the film’s collection much. ADHM started on a good note at the ticket windows.

Bollywood analyst Taran Adarsh took to Twitter to share the day one collections of Ae Dil Hai Mushkil. He tweeted: #ADHM Fri ₹ 13.30 cr. India biz… EXCELLENT at plexes… Note: Dhanteras. Pre-Diwali.
ADHM — starring Ranbir Kapoor, Anushka Sharma and Aishwarya Rai Bachchan — saw good occupancy during morning shows. The movie opened with around 35-50% occupancy across the country. In some parts, the film had around 50% occupancy.
The film is expected to strike gold at the box office during this weekend as festive season prevails. Diwali will only help in increasing the overall weekend collection of Ae Dil Hai Mushkil. The ticket sales traditionally escalate the day after Diwali.

The film did well in terms of advance booking, giving it an edge over Ajay Devgn-starrer Shivaay. Considering that Ae Dil Hai Mushkil has some big stars, it will do good in multiplexes. There has been a lot of curiosity around the film ever since its trailer released.
Both the films are releasing on approximately the same number of screens — between 2800 to 3000 screens. While ADHM has a higher share of multiplexes, Shivaay is releasing in more single-screen theatres. ADHM has been made at an approximate budget of Rs 70 crore with about Rs 10-15 crore spent on promotions. It has already earned about Rs 50 crore after the pre-release sale of rights, according to sources.

Thanks to MNS, ADHM ended up getting mired in some unwanted controversy that kept the film buzzing for almost a month. Fawad Khan may not return to India again in the near future but his minor presence in the film gave ADHM humongous publicity.
Karan Johar is back doing what he is best at with a genre that he is absolutely comfortable directing. Back after a long hibernation, KJo would be looking to leave a long-lasting impact.
