A day after Kannada actor Raghava Uday Kumar’s (30) body was fished out of Thippagondanahalli reservoir, the body of his co-actor Anil Kumar (32) was recovered from the reservoir on Thursday. The two actors were feared drowned after they jumped off a helicopter into the reservoir Monday during the shoot for Kannada film Mastigudi.
The two had jumped from a helicopter with the film’s lead actor, Duniya Vijay, who was rescued by a boat. Duniya was wearing a life jacket, but Uday and Anil were not, said police who have registered a case against stunt director Ravi Verma, film director Nagashekhar and producer Surendar Gowda. The producer has been arrested.
Uday hailed from a slum in south Bengaluru and was an autorickshaw driver before joining films. He worked in Duniya, the film that gave Duniya Vijay his name, and they became friends. Anil was a childhood friend of Duniya Vijay.
“I took care of Anil and Uday like my children. I am shocked by their deaths, which occurred right before me,” said Vijay who stayed with rescuers over the past four days until the bodies of his friends were fished out of the reservoir.
“Vijay was a godfather for both Uday and Anil,” said Uday’s father Venkatesh, a carpenter, who blamed the stunt director for negligence.
Anil, the father of two young children, worked as a gym trainer before starting his own gym, where Duniya Vijay and Uday Raghav were regulars. He is said to have invested in the production of Mastigudi.
