Union Minister Thawar Chand Gehlot, who attended the meeting as an Observer from the BJP central unit, declared Sonowal elected unanimously as the Legislature Party leader.

Thanking Prime Minister Narendra Modi for his support, Sonowal said, “We have the spirit of unity and we have to live up to the people’s expectations.”

Talking about his meeting with Modi on Saturday, Sonowal said the Prime Minister has asked everyone to work honestly for development of all sections of the society.

“He (Modi) said we have got a scope to work for all. He is there for us in our every need. We have to complete the unfinished work,” Sonowal said.

He said the BJP winning 60 seats in Assam on its own was “completely unexpected for him”.

“People wholeheartedly gave their mandate in our favour. Nothing can be better than this. We have a big responsibility now,” he added.

After the meeting, when asked by media about his priorities, Sonowal said implementation of ‘Assam Accord’ is topmost for him.

He also said there is no discomfort in working with his former senior and AGP leader Prafulla Kumar Mahanta and he will seek guidance from him.

Mr. Sarma seems to have a burning desire to help his people. It's a big plus for BJP to find some one in its fold who has no other desire for himself (like PM Modi says think not what position you will get but think what you can do for the people) but doing good for the people. Very rare to find some one like this man when most of the politicians are sold and bought like potatoes for a some "price"! BJP probably will find ways to use the services of Mr. Sarma not only in am but elsewhere as well.

Coming of BJP Govt in am is in the interest of Nation. This govt will definitely stop influx of Refugees from Bangladesh.Congress Govt was more interested to issue Ration Cards,Voting right to these refugees came from Bangladesh and pave way for their permanent settlement in am.For votes bank politics Congress Party can go to any extend even forgetting national interest.ame pride and culture must be protected and this will done by BJP Govt and not Congress Govt. That is why it lost its power there.

Start work, from day one. Create a work culture. Follow PM's path of hardwork. Do not become like AGP govts, who enjo and earned. But did nothing to count on. It is good BJP alone got 60 seats, just 4 seats less than absolute majority.

Sonowal -a product of AGP and Sarma - an INC product--- will dance to the tune of saffrons for five years and its uncertain even for them where they will be going in mid or on completion of 5 year-term . Its a mixture of AGP, INC and BJP, I think .
