With XAT exam scheduled for January 3, we clear some misconceptions regarding the XAT exam pattern and marking. The following details will help you understand the importance of XAT exam and why it should be taken seriously just as you take CAT exam.
Exam pattern: The test for CAT comprises of two sections of quantitative ability and data interpretation and verbal ability and logical reasoning. The XAT paper also comprises of two tests wherein Paper 1 is objective paper with multiple choice questions. The sections of this paper are verbal ability, decision making, quantitative aptitude and general awareness and Paper 2 is essay writing.
In XAT-2016, students will have a choice of not attempting 13 questions. Beyond this, any unattempted question will carry the negative mark of 0.05. There would also be negative marking of 0.25 marks for any wrong answer. This would encourage the risk taking ability of the students.
The format of supplementary sections of GK and essay would remain same with some minor changes. The time allowed to answer both GK and essay would be 35 minutes. Last year, the GK score of most candidates was on the lower side, and some candidates had complained about the time. Taking this feedback into consideration, the number of questions in the GK has been reduced to 25. All the questions would be general in nature rather than specific. There would be no negative marking in this section.
Time: 20 minutes extra are allotted in XAT examination and is based on conventional paper pencil mode on OMR sheet unlike CAT which is computer-based.
Marking: Penalty for the wrong answer in XAT is by one-fourth marks, while that of CAT is by one-third marks.
Nowadays, XAT score is equally considered by top management institutes in India. For reference, below mentioned is the list of some of the top business schools that consider XAT score cut-off for admission in post graduate programme in management.
