The Uttar Pradesh Board of Secondary Education has announced the Board examination schedule of Classes 10 and 12 in schools affiliated with it for the 2017 session. While the Class 10 exams will begin from February 16 and will continue till March 6, 2017, the Class 12 exams will be held between February 16 and March 20, 2017.
This session will see about 60 lakh students writing the exam. This year, the exams will be completed in 25 days. The Vidhansabha elections in Uttar Pradesh are likely to be held after March, given this announcement.
In 2016, the annual high school and intermediate examinations of the UP Board began from February 18. In 2015, these exams began from February 19.
One of the reasons the exams dates are shifted to due elections is that teachers are assigned duties as invigilators during board exams as well as election duties. The Election Commission (EC) is expected to release the schedule of elections in various states, including Uttar Pradesh, Punjab and Goa, among others, in the next couple of months.
The date sheet for the examination, however, has not been released. The exams are conducted state-wide for school students studying in Classes 10 and 12 on the same lines as the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) annual board examinations and the Indian Council of Secondary Examination (ICSE) annual board examinations, among others.
The Uttar Pradesh Examination Board is a recognised school exam board of the Education Department of Uttar Pradesh. Several other states in the country schedule their state examinations other than the CBSE and ICSE exams for these classes. These provide affiliation to schools and recommend or at times print books and draft syllabus as well.
