The Allahabad University’s VC was in news recently for lashing out against political interference in the working of the University. He assumed office in December last year during Irani’s tenure as HRD Minister.

The HRD Ministry will now issue a showcause to Allahabad University seeking an explanation on why an inquiry should not be instituted to look into complaints of financial, administrative and academic irregularities. If they don’t find the response satisfactory, the Ministry will launch a Visitorial Inquiry.

During the tenure of Smriti Irani as the HRD Minister, the heads of Visva-Bharati University and Pondicherry University were fired on the grounds of administrative, academic and financial irregularities. Inquiries were also initiated against the IGNOU V-C, former head of Delhi University and the Jamia Millia Islamia V-C.
