With the Panjab University elections scheduled Wednesday, several senior party leaders of the BJP, Congress and SAD thronged the campus to boost the morale of the student organisations. The campaigning for the elections came to an end Monday with rallies held by student organisations.
On Tuesday, the leaders were seen busy interacting personally with the students seeking their support.
Among those who visited the campus Tuesday include Parambans Singh Romana, national coordinator of SOI, student wing of the SAD, Amarinder Raja Warring, president of the All India Youth Congress, Sanjay Tandon, president of Chandigarh BJP and Mayor Arun Sood. Vijender Singla, former MP of the Congress and Digvijay Chautala, president of Indian National Student Organisation were present on the campus on Monday.
Romana held a meeting with senior functionaries of the SOI on the campus issuing them last- minute instructions, while Tandon held meeting with the offic-bearers of the ABVP and took stock of the ground reality.
The SOI, the ABVP and the INSO have an alliance on the campus.
Warring also gave last minute instructions to the National Student Organizations of India (NSUI) which is contesting the elections in alliance with the SOPU and PUHH.
Sources said that Warring is camping in Chandigarh and has been monitoring the campaign from there. He has been giving instructions to all concerned after getting briefing from them about the developments on the campus. Romana, too, has been keeping a close watch on day-to-day basis on the election proceedings.
He is in touch with senior Akali leaders including the SAD president Sukhbir Singh Badal, who is currently abroad. Last year SOI candidate Jasmeen Kang was elected the president of the Council.
Romana Tuesday asked his team to have list of all voters and to ensure that all SOI supporters come to the polling booths to cast their vote.
