From current financial year, all the Central government scholarships will be directly disbursed into the bank account for eligible students in Jammu and Kashmir.
Disclosing this, an official release quoting officials of higher education department said that “from the financial year 2016-17 onwards, Aadhaar number will be used as an identification for disbursement of all government subsidies and scholarships which would be disbursed directly into the bank account of the beneficiary seeded with the Aadhar number. ”
“The government has initiated the seeding of bank account with the Aadhaar number for Direct Benefit Transfer transactions for release of scholarships provided by the Ministry of Human Resource Development and the University Grants Commission,” it added.
It asked the colleges and the universities to ensure proper awareness among students that the beneficiaries of Central sector of scholarships need to have a proper Aadhaar number as the scholarships shall be released only in favour of those respective bank accounts that are linked with their Aadhaar numbers.
Pointing out that applications for Central scholarships need to be routed through National e-scholarship portal of the Government of India, it asked the universities and colleges to take a proactive role in uploading relevant data regarding non-DBT beneficiaries on the web portal of the Union Ministry of Human Resource Development and the University Grants Commission.
For the students who are not registered under Aadhaar, necessary steps should be taken for their enrollment in a campaign mode by the colleges and universities, it said, advising students to apply online for Central scholarships whose last date has been fixed as September 30. This “date will not be extended under any circumstances,’” it added.
