In response to a RTI query by an activist, the Sir JJ School of Arts under University of Mumbai revealed that seven out of eight professors’s posts are vacant and 10 lecturers take classes against the approved 36 posts. Six ad-hoc lecturers and nine contract lecturers have been recruited for around 700 students. RTI activist Anil Galgali said the response said the Directorate of Art (DoA) was supposed to fill the vacancies. Rajiv Mishra, director in-charge of DoA, said, “We have asked MPSC (Maharashtra Public Service Commission) to recruit faculty and the process is on.” Galgali has written to CM Devendra Fadnavis requesting to fill vacancies at the earliest.
