Aditya Malik alias Surender Singh, who allegedly stabbed a 21-year-old woman to death in a crowded market in Burari Tuesday morning, has claimed that he and the victim were “in a relationship,” said sources.
During questioning, Malik told police that he killed the victim, Karuna, as he was enraged over some “pictures” of her his friend had shown him. Malik, 34, is the son of a retired Delhi Police Sub-Inspector.
“An FIR has been registered under Section 302 (punishment for murder) of the Indian Penal Code on the basis of a statement by Karuna’s cousin at the Burari police station and the accused has been arrested,” said Deputy Commissioner of Police (north district), Madhur Verma. He added, “We have recovered the weapon used in the crime. Further investigations are on.”
Malik, who is married, told police that he and Karuna had known each other since 2014, and he had also visited her residence, said sources. “He claimed that he and Karuna planned to get married soon, once he got divorced,” they said.
“Explaining why he attacked her, Malik told police that after he confronted Karuna about the photos… she said they had been morphed,” said sources. They added that Malik “was not satisfied with the answer and decided to teach her a lesson”.
On the day of the incident, the accused allegedly bought a pair of scissors from the local shop and waited for her near Labour Chowk in Burari, as he was familiar with the route she took on her way to work, said sources.
