A complaint has been registered with the Chief Election Commissioner of the JNU Students’ Union polls, alleging that the ABVP is sending bulk SMSes to students asking them to vote for the organisation.

CEC Ishita Manna said Monday, “We received a complaint from a student that messages were being sent to them by the ABVP. The complainant wanted to know how they had accessed the database…”

Outgoing JNUSU joint-secretary Saurabh Sharma from the ABVP denied the organisation had undertaken any such strategy. However, Saket Bahuguna, national media coordinator of the ABVP, said it was a strategy adopted by the JNU unit.

Bahuguna added that it was adopted this year because the activists “did not get the idea earlier”.
