Gangster Ashok Rathi confessed to being responsible for the murder of his wife, Sushma, who was shot dead last week, police said Thursday.
“He confessed to the crime during questioning. He says he got her murdered by two of his men because he suspected she was involved with another man,” said Narender Kumar, Station House Officer (SHO) of Bhondsi police station and the investigating officer (IO) of the case.
He added, “Rathi has been sent back to judicial custody… The two men he named in the matter are members of his gang and are absconding. We are trying to track them down.”
The murder took place on September 2 in Gurgaon’s Alipur Mod. Sushma was walking back to her bike after putting the couple’s 8-year-old daughter, who studies in a private school in Gurgaon, on her school bus.
According to police, two men in a Santro car shot Sushma in the head and chest. She was rushed to the General Hospital in Sohna, where she was declared dead.
The car was found gutted near Dhatir village, almost 20 km from the scene of the crime. Investigations revealed that the vehicle had been stolen from Faridabad in August, said police.
Sushma had been separated from Rathi since last year. In November last year, she had registered an FIR at Bhondsi police station alleging that her husband had called her from prison and threatened to kill her.
Rathi, who has been serving a life term in Bhondsi jail since 2014 for killing Sushma’s mother and brother in 2011, was taken into four-day police remand on Saturday for questioning in connection with his wife’s murder.
