Two hoax calls kept the Chandigarh police personnel busy Wednesday after the police control room received two calls in the morning informing them about the suspicious men in two areas.

Police said they received two calls on Wednesday, first from a woman police personnel who informed the PCR that she had spotted a group of men wearing “army uniform” in an Innova car at Presslight Point. Another call was received about a few youths “carrying a pistol” in Sector 26 .

According to the police, both calls turned out to be hoax. “We received the call around 10.am and a team was sent and they located the car. They turned out to be CISF personnel,” said SDPO (Central) Ram Gopal. He said all of them were deployed in the city itself.

About the second call, a police officer said, “We questioned them and they were residents of Hallomajra. They were carrying a shotgun. We let them go,” said Inspector Jaspal Singh, SHO Sector 26 police station.

Sources said soon after the calls were received, police were sent to the respective areas and an alert was issued.

A police officer said, “It is a good thing. It shows that the public in the city are alert and they immediately inform the police after seeing suspicious activities,” said SDPO Gopal.

SSP UT Sukhchain Singh Gill told Chandigarh Newsline that police was on toes till the calls were verified. “We alerted all the police stations through the wireless and the car carrying CISF men was located,” he said. “Everything was verified by the police and nothing wrong was found.”
