THE CONGRESS Friday appointed HPCC president Sukhwinder Sukhu as the chairman of the party’s state election committee. This is being seen by some as a new formula devised by AICC vice-president Rahul Gandhi to “strike a balance” between the Chief Minister and the state party chief, who have been at loggerheads before an uneasy truce recently.
Sukhu will head a 15-member election committee comprising Chief Minister Virbhadra Singh, Congress deputy leader in Rajya Sabha Anand Sharma, Rajya Sabha member Viplove Thakur and six state ministers. Six committees were set up Friday by the AICC in the run-up to the elections in the state, slated for November 9.
Health Minister Kaul Singh Thakur was made chairman of the manifesto committee. AICC general secretary Sushil Kumar Shinde will head a 13-member coordination committee with Sukhu as its convenor.
A 24-member campaign committee will again be headed by Sukhwinder Sukhu with Chief Minister ,MP Viplove Thakur (Convenor), Anand Sharma ,Vidya Stokes, Kaul Sigh Thakur and G S Bali as members. Minister Mukesh Agnihotri will lead the HPCC’s 28-member publicity committee of the party. The AICC has also set up disciplinary committee under retired Chief Secretary A N Vidyarthi.
