A 19-year-old youth is in critical condition after he is suspected to have jumped from the terrace of Pune police commissionerate on Tuesday evening. Police have identified the youth as Sujit Ajit Pradhan, a resident of Morwadi in Pimpri.
Police said Sujit was a B.Com second-year student in a Pimpri college. A girl from the same college had filed a complaint with the cyber cell of Pune city police that someone had created a Facebook profile in her name and was circulating derogatory messages from it.
During investigation, police located the IP address used for creating the profile. Police said the IP address was in the name of a software engineer. Accordingly, they contacted the techie, who denied his role, but said his brother Sujit studies in her college.
So the police called the techie along with Sujit at the cyber police station, located on the terrace of Pune police commissionerate, for inquiry on Tuesday. The complainant had also come to the cyber police station at around the same time. Police suspected Sujit created the fake profile of the girl and circulated messages with objectionable content from it to other people.
While the inquiry was on, Sujit is suspected to have jumped off the terrace at around 5.15 pm. He fell on a cable and collapsed on the ground. Policemen rushed down and admitted Sujit to Sassoon hospital. His condition was reported to be critical.
Meanwhile, senior police officers including commissioner KK Pathak, joint commissioner Sunil Ramanand and deputy commissioner (cyber cell) DK Sakore, visited the spot.
Sakore said, “We had called Sujit’s brother based on complaint from a girl. It is being probed whether Sujit jumped or how he fell down.”
