IN A bid to address the traffic snarls on the road to the airport, Pune Guardian Minister Girish Bapat said on Monday that concretisation and road repair work should be carried out at the earliest. After chairing a meeting on the traffic problems in the area and the pending works, he said that all efforts should be taken to streamline the work to bring about a solution to the traffic snarls in the area.
The meeting, which took place in the presence of the Collector, Saurabh Rao, and PMC Commissioner Kunal Kumar and other officials from the airport, the meeting discussed matters pertaining to construction of new roads that would help divert traffic and widen the existing roads to the airport from Viman Nagar and Weikfield.
With nearly 55 lakh people travelling by air from the Pune airport during 2015-16, the meeting stated that there was a need to undertake development of new roads for the convenience of the commuters heading and returning from the Lohegaon airport. There was a finding that the road from junction 509 to airport be widened and be made four lane to meet the present needs of the traffic while that of Viman Nagar to airport be widened to six lane.
