Hawaldar Vitthal Raut, who has been on leave, may be suspended

A 21-year-old woman trainee at the Police Training School (PTS),Khandala, was allegedly molested by a hawaldar Vitthal Raut (39),who is reported to be the trainer. The police have now booked Raut, who has been on leave for a few days.

The incident allegedly took place around 11.30 am on Saturday,on the premises of PTS,Khandala, located about 70 km from Pune city. The trainee then lodged a written complaint against Raut with the PTS officials. An internal inquiry was initiated by the PTS.

On Sunday, the PTS has forwarded their internal investigation report to the Lonavala city police station. “Based on the internal investigation report given by PTS,we are lodging a complaint against Raut under Section 354 (molestation) of the Indian Penal Code,” said inspector Vishnukumar Pawar of Lonavala city police.

Shivaji Shinde, the head of PTS,Khandala, said the investigation is on and stern action would be taken against Raut if he is found guilty. “Raut is a physical trainer at the PTS. There are 635 girl undergoing training along with the complainant to join the police as constables. No other girl has come up with molestation complaint against him before or now.”

The complainant joined PTS in March. The PTS officials recorded statements of seven persons during the probe.

Raut’s statement has not been recorded as he has been on leave. He may be suspended if found guilty. Pawar said they have not arrested Raut yet. Police said the case should not be considered as a scandal as only one girl has lodged a complaint. Last year,a major sex scandal had came to light at the Kolhapur police training school, where a few women trainees were allegedly abused sexually by their trainers.
