A 27-YEAR-OLD woman constable was allegedly murdered by her husband, who is also a constable,at their Vishrantwadi residence on Sunday morning. The police said the murder was a fallout of a family dispute.

The Vishrantwadi police said Rupali Salvi and her husband Shreyas Vinod Salvi (30) were posted at the Foreigners Registration Office (FRO) of the Pune city commissionerate.

“The couple, who have been married for two year, started having problems after Rupali learnt that she was Shreyas’ second wife. His first wife is the daughter of one of his relatives, and he also has a son from her,” police personnel said.

The murder reportedly came to light after Shreyas took Rupali to a hospital and told doctors that she was injured. However, soon it was found to be a case of assault.

Senior inspector Sudhakar Kate of Vishrantwadi police station, who is also the investigating officer of the case, said,“The two had a heated argument at around 4 am. Shreyas then forcibly took her out of the house and hit her on her head and face with a blunt object. He then took her to Sassoon Hospital and left as soon as the admission procedure was over. Hospital staff then contacted us. We soon launched a search and nabbed him.”

Deputy Commissioner of Police (Zone IV) Manoj Patil said,“Shreyas has been arrested under Section 302 of the Indian Penal Code (punishment for murder).”
