A mob had virtually taken over the tender cell on Feb 2

The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has decided not to file any criminal offence regarding the hooliganism of a group of youths led by the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) at the tender cell, until a contractor comes forward with a complaint to the civic body over this.

The security department of PMC submitted its report to the civic administration stating that no arms were found with the goons at the tender cell.

Municipal Commissioner Praveensinh Pardeshi said,“As per the report submitted by the security department,a huge mob assembled at the tender cell. But no weapon was found with anybody in the crowd. Civic administration has not yet filed any complaint in this regard because none of the contractors, who came to file applications, had given a complaint in this regard.”

Security chief L M Kondhre said that the media had exaggerated the issue.

NCP city unit had also issued notices to corporators Datta Dhankawade,Balasaheb Bodke and Sunil Tingare, who were allegedly involved in the episode. However, the three corporators have claimed that they were not involved in the matter. The corporators said that as they were entering the PMC’s parking space where a mob had gathered. “Our pictures were clicked and later published by saying that the corporators led mob into the tender cell,” they said.

Alleged criminals had virtually taken control of the tender cell of PMC for hours in the afternoon on February 2 in an attempt to block civic contractors from filing the tenders for five different civic projects worth over Rs 100 crore. These members, who were about 200 in strength, allegedly belonged to NCP,which is at the helm of affairs at the civic body.
