The promised Wi-Fi facility will soon be operational at Pune Railway Station as the infrastructure necessary for implementation of the service is ready. The announcement of the commencement of the service may soon come, senior officials with Pune Division said.
The Wi-Fi project is being executed by the RailTel corporation in association with United States of America (USA) information technology giant Google. The public Wi-Fi service, which commenced earlier this year from Mumbai Central, is now available in the following stations: Pune, Bhubaneshwar, Bhopal, Ranchi, Raipur, Vijayawada, Kacheguda (Hyderabad), Ernakulam (Kochi) and Visakhapatnam.
“The agencies have installed Wi-Fi routers across the station. We are now waiting for them to give us a date when the service would become operational,” said Manoj Jhawar, PRO, Pune Division.
The service built over the fiber network of RailTel is designed to offer high speed broadband experience to users. Travellers passing through these stations will now be able to easily stream a high definition video, research their destination, download a book or a new game for their journey.
