Water released from Pavana,Mulshi & Khadakwasla dams

Incessant rains in the catchment of Pavana and Mulshi dams triggered the authorities to release water from the dams on Monday. While 2,200 cusecs of water was released from Pavana,2,671 cusecs were discharged from Mulshi dam.

Officials attached to the disaster management cell of the Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) said the Pavana dam was 82 per cent full on Sunday. With the rise of water levels due to rains,it was decided to release water from the dam,they added. The dam was only 24 per cent full in July last year.

Around 2,000 cusecs of water was also released from the Khadakwasla dam,which was 86 per cent full on Monday. Last year in July,the dam was 50.63 per cent full.

Meanwhile,Pune has registered 8.9 mm of rain in the last 24 hours. Indian Meteorological Department has predicted rain and thundershowers for the next 48 hours in the state.
