A 36-year-old restaurant owner of Waduj, who was brutally beaten up on the night of October 6 after his car brushed with another car near new Katraj tunnel, succumbed to injuries hours later. Police filed a case of murder after primary investigation and have arrested five persons who were in the other car. As per the information given by Sinhagad Road police, the incident took place around 9.30 pm on October 6, when the deceased, identified as Abhaysingh Uttam Godse, was on his way to Pune from Waduj in Satara in a WagonR, to pick up some cooks for the restaurant. He was accompanied by his friend Sameer Attar. On a stretch of Mumbai-Bangalore highway, between Katraj tunnel and Vadgaon bridge, his car brushed past a Swift car. Some distance later, the people from the Swift car asked Godse to stop and halted in front of them.

The five persons in the car got down and started brutally beating Godse with iron and wooden rods and also started thrashing Attar. “Godse was beaten brutally on hands and legs and so was was Attar. After the five attackers fled from the spot, Godse himself drove the car toward Chandani Chowk, but at one point, he suddenly felt giddy and could not drive any further. Attar was also not in a position to drive. A passerby stopped to check on the halted car, and found the two were in a bad state, but were still able to talk. The passerby called a man from Waduj from Godse’s phone and asked them to come and pick the duo up,” said police sub-inspector B L Khodade.

He added, “A couple of hours later, some people from Waduj came to pick up Godse and Attar. But as they were a few kilometers away from Waduj, Godse fell unconscious. He was rushed to a hospital, but was declared brought dead. A case of sudden death was primarily registered at the Waduj police station. It was later transferred to Sinhagad Road police station, because it had taken place in our jurisdiction. Based on the primary findings of the inquest and autopsy, we registered a case of murder against the five persons who were in the car.” Khodade further said, “Based on some primary clues and information from sources, we have arrested all the five persons from the car. Their names will be revealed after an identification parade.”
