Veerkar,Kadam graft to victories

Close encounters marked the opening day of the third edition of the Vishrambaug Trophy All-India Under-14 Junior National Talent Series Tennis Tournament organised by the Pune Metropolitan District Tennis Association (PMDTA). The tournament has been organised in association with Vishrambaug Tarun Mandal and is being played at the MSLTA School of Tennis courts in Balewadi.

In the second round of the boys’ under-14 event,Aditya Veerkar scored a hard fought 6-5(4) win over Ishan Jadhav. Both players fought tooth and nail but Veerkar’s superior control over his serve went in his favour as he clinched a close match. Pranav Kadam scored an identical 6-5(4) win over Sahil Gotmane in another feisty encounter. Gotmane seemed to be in control of the match but Kadam roared back from a game down and used his powerful groundstrokes to good effect to secure victory.

In other second round matches,Atharva Sharma downed Brijesh Mangodekar 6-3 while Vamsi Krishnan Devsani hammered Saurabh Kalane 6-0 in a display of dominant and aggressive tennis. Tanmay Gupta defeated Rahul Motwani 6-4 while Aditya Shriram got past Srujan Parab 6-3. Piyush Salekar breezed past Sojas Khandagle 6-0 while Anshul Chandel made short work of Akro Ganguly 6-1. Abhishek Shukla,Siddharth Sable and Aditya Kumar got through their respective second round encounters without dropping a game,defeating Rahul Korde,Ankush Pandit and Azad Jagtap with identical 6-0 scorelines.
