Judicial Magistrate (First Class) A.K Mandavgade has extended the police custody of University of Pune (UoP) assistant registrar Murlidhar Shankar Gaikwad and section officer Attar Riyaz Khan Harun till March 9.

Both were arrested by the police for allegedly increasing the marks of candidates, who had appeared for the exams for the posts of non-teaching staff.

Requesting for an extension of police custody, the police said that they want to investigate how much money the duo had taken from the candidates whose marks were changed. Further investigation is necessary to verify the involvement of more people.

Five out of the nine candidates, from whom the duo took bribe, are residents of Sangamner and Ahmednagar. Attar also hails from Sangamner. It is necessary for the police to take the duo to these places for investigations.

During the investigations,Gaikwad told that since Attar was a section officer (Administration),he looked after the various aspects relating to the exams. So,he is the only one who had made some alterations to documents, saved the increased marks of the candidates and sent the results for them to be announced. He has kept the pen drive at his residence in Sangamner.
