Deputy Commissioner of Police (traffic) Vishwas Pandhare paid a fine of Rs 100 for not wearing a seat belt while driving his private car on Baner Road on Sunday afternoon.

DCP Pandhare was driving his private car to Baner, when traffic control branch staff were checking vehicles as part of the current drive against tinted glasses.

Umesh Devkar,a constable, stopped Pandhare’s car when he noticed that the driver of the car was not wearing the seat belt. However,he did not recognise him at that time since he had flagged him down from a distance. It was only when Pandhare slowed down and Devkar approached him did he realise that the man he flagged down was none other than the Deputy Commissioner of Police (traffic) Vishwas Pandhare and saluted him.

When Pandhare asked him why he had been asked to stop,Devkar managed to inform him that he noticed the ‘driver’ of the car was not wearing the seat belt. Pandhare then paid the fine of Rs 100.

When contacted,Pandhare admitted,“Yes. I paid the fine of Rs 100. I usually wear seat belt while driving. But on this occasion,I was somehow not wearing it.” Pandhare added. He has reportedly also awarded Devkar.
