All the police constables of the Pune police are these days carrying an unusual pocket calender. Along with the usual table of months and days, the calender also has photos of nine terror suspects who are either from Pune or are wanted in the terror strikes in the city. The calender has photos of Yasin Bhatkal and Asadulla Akhtar, who have been arrested and so the calender will now be revised in coming weeks, police officers said.

A senior police officer with the Pune police crime branch said,“Recently we had asked all the crime branch team heads, individual police in-charge officers to ask their constables to identify the main terror suspects who are from Pune or who are wanted in Pune terror strikes. Only 40-50 per cent of the constables could identify a few of them. We decided to print these pocket calenders. The calenders are now with all the constables since last four weeks.”

The calender that is currently with the constables and other teams, has names of IM operatives Yasin Bhatkal,Asadullah Akhtar,Waqas alias Ahmed,Mohsin Chaudhary of Kondhwa in Pune who is wanted in German Bakery blast case, other IM operatives like Sohain Usman Gani Shaikh of Cantonment area,Rahil Aatur Rehman of NIBM Road in Kondhwa,Rizwas Mohammed of Wanwadi in Pune. Another name in the calender is of Sarang Akolkar,a resident of Shaniwar Peth, who is an Sanatan Sanstha member and is wanted in 2010 Goa blast case. The calenders give their photos, addresses and a brief profile.

A senior police inspector said,“It is important that at least the staffers from the detection branch and those on the night round are familiar with the faces.” The idea of pocket calenders was well appreciated by senior officers of ATS.

Rajesh Bansode,DCP(crime branch),“We are now set to revise the calender. The new calenders will be even more elaborate on the number of suspects and their description.”
