This time last year,Anant Pai,the founder of Amar Chitra Katha, was gearing up to attend the second annual Comic Con in New Delhi. But as we all know, his travel plans fell through after he suffered a fall just before the event and subsequently passed away due to a heart attack on February 24,2011. But even as the faithful fans of Uncle Pai lamented the loss of their childhood icon, the team at Amar Chitra Katha started formulating the perfect way to pay a tribute to the legend.

Anant Pai – Master Storyteller, the biography of the author who changed the reading habits of Indian children over the decades, will be launched during the third annual comic con on February 18. “Anant Pai was a father figure for comic book lovers in India,” says Reena Puri, editor of Amar Chitra Katha. “His fans at Comic Con really missed him last year when they found out that he wouldn’t be able to attend. Launching his biography at this forum is thus the perfect way to pay him tribute,” adds Puri.

The 32-page comic book took the company six months to research and write, and has been illustrated by Dilip Kadam, who worked with Pai for over 35 years and drew all three volumes of ACK’s Mahabharata. The book will feature scenes from his childhood, his career switch from a chemical engineer to writer and storyteller, and a lifetime of his contribution to the Amar Chitra Katha family.
