Under criticism for going on an official tour with family,Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) mayor Vaishali Bankar on Friday said she would follow party decision if she is asked to leave the post but expressed that her tenure was short to show good performance.

“I am not aware of any talks to change the mayor. I would follow the party decision even if it means stepping down,” she said when asked about the discussions of change of mayor.

Bankar said that she had done a lot of good work as mayor as per senior party leaders’ directions. “My tenure as mayor was too short to show good performance but I have done whatever possible,” she said.

When asked about the controversy on taking her family on an official tour of South Korea, she said she was invited with the entire family but made a mistake of taking them as NGO representative. “I will not repeat the mistake next time I go on any official tour. I would take all care of not violating any rules while going on an official tour,” she said.

A senior NCP leader said that the party will replace the mayor in the next few months.

“The party has shortlisted candidates for the post and would take a decision considering its impact on next year’s Assembly and Lok Sabha polls,” he said adding the mayor post is reserved for OBC women corporator.

Those in the forefront for the post of mayor are Nanda Lonkar,Chanchala Kodre,Sangeeta Kudale and Ashwini Kadam,he added.
