Pune: Tempo driver robbed of Rs 1.6 lakh on NH-4

A tempo driver who was on his way to Karnataka from Pune on National Highway 4 was robbed of Rs 1.6 lakh by a gang of four persons near the Old Katraj tunnel. The incident took place Thursday morning at 6.10 am, when the driver, Prakash Kumar Bhati, was intercepted by the robbers. Bhati, 28, is a resident of Kondhwa.

“They made him stop his vehicle by parking their car in the middle of the road. They accused Bhati of overtaking their car and got into an argument. They beat him up and then forced him to take a U-turn, threatening to take him to a police chowky… They continued to drive until Lonavala and only let him go after robbing him of Rs 1.6 lakh. They let him go at the Kusgaon Exit Road,” said Assistant Police Inspector Chandrakant Suryavanshi.
