A five-year-old girl who arrived in the city to attend a relatives wedding died in Warje area after she was hit by a motorcycle while crossing the road along with her mother on Wednesday evening. In another incident,a 24-year software professional was killed after a speeding truck hit his bike at Bopodi signal on the Pune-Mumbai highway on Wednesday night.
Five-year-old Komal Kailas Gawali was crossing the road with her mother and two brothers on Wednesday around 6.45 pm,when the bike hit her near Chandani Chowk. The 21-year-old rider,who was injured in the accident,was arrested.
Warje Malwadi police said Komals family is from Paithan in Aurangabad district in the state and had come to Pune for a relatives wedding.
Police arrested biker Tejas Pravin Kacha,a resident of Bhagyadeep Colony in Karvanagar..
Police sub-inspector A K Jarkad said,The family was staying in Uditnagar area at the house of uncle of Komal. Her mother had taken her and her brothers to a shop across Katraj Dehu Road bypass. As they were returning and crossing the road holding hands,Komal was somehow left behind in the middle of the road and was hit by the bike. Kacha fell down. We arrested him immediately after the accident.
Police said Kacha is a painter with an automobile company.
In the second accident,a 24-year-old software professional,Shreehari Bajirao Kakad,of Sangamner in Nagar district died after his bike was run hit by a truck at around 10.45 pm.
Khadki police said Kakad who was a resident of in Kharadi,was on his way to Sangvi to meet a friend. Assistant police inspector R S Kadu,the investigating officer in the case,said,Kakads brother told us he worked for Amdocs as a software engineer. Near Bopodi chowk,a truck (registration number MH12-HM-6055),trying to overtake him,hit him from the left side. He died on the spot. He was not wearing a helmet. Police said Kakad is survived by his parents and a brother.
Kadu added,The truck driver fled after the accident,we have launched a search for him.
