After small stints in Heroine and Fashion,Pune-girl Pooja Chopra takes the lead in Commando.
Winning the title of Miss India was all that Pooja Chopra dreamt of since she was a kid. And it was not till she won the crown in 2009 that she began to consider the idea of acting in films. Born and brought up in Pune,Chopra says that she took up acting only to oblige her mother. I was not always inclined towards acting. It’s only when my mother said she wants me to be an actor that I decided to give acting a shot, says the 27-year-old.
After special appearances in Madhur Bhandarkar’s films such as Fashion and Heroine,Chopra is all set to make her debut as a female lead in Vipul Shahs upcoming venture titled Commando. She has been cast opposite Vidyut Jamwal.
My pictures were sent to the director while they were casting. Then I met the director and producer, following which there was a screen test and a final reading of the script and I was on board, says Chopra, who took short courses in acting and dance. If bagging the role was smooth, shooting for the movie was an ordeal. Vipul,Vidyut and I did a joint reading of the script several times. I also had to work hard on building my stamina as I had to match Vidyuts pace while running in the jungle in most part of the film, which meant strenuous training, says Chopra. I feel Ive learnt the essence of acting during the course of shooting for this film, she adds.
Despite the strenuous physical training and difficult scenes,Chopra says she had a great time on the sets. For a scene I am supposed to bump into Vidyut and request him to rescue me. I came running with so much force that we both fell down and rolled on the ground laughing, she recalls.
