Swine flu patient dies of heart attack

Sheshrao Shriniwas Pillai,who died on Sunday after a heart attack,was also infected with the H1N1 virus (swine flu),said health officials.

Sheshrao Shriniwas Pillai,who died on Sunday after a heart attack,was also infected with the H1N1 virus (swine flu),said health officials. The patient was a diabetic with myocardial infarction and triple vessel disease,they added.

As many as 244 swine flu cases were reported in March alone. Dr S T Pardeshi,chief medical officer,PMC,said Pillai’s death was mainly due to the triple vessel disease leading to a heart attack. Pillai,of Kondhwa,was admitted to KEM Hospital on March 29. He was put on ventilator support on March 31. The National Institute of Virology confirmed he had swine flu. There have been nine swine flu deaths so far,said health officials. Pillai,they said,was critical and had suffered a heart attack. “He was detected with swine flu,” said Pardeshi,who said he had no morbid conditions which led to his death. Surveillance measures were under way,he added.
