SwaCH, also known as Solid Waste Collection and Handling, a cooperative of self-employed waste pickers which provides door-to-door waste collection and waste management services to Pune’s citizens, collected and managed waste during Durga Puja and Ganpati Utsav.

For the past five years, SWaCH has been providing this service for Durga Puja celebrations organised at Congress Bhavan.

Shobha Suresh Bansode and her SwaCH team offered daily waste collection service on Prabhat Road between 7am and noon and at the Durga Puja celebrations in Congress Bhavan.

SWaCH’s services entail collection of wet and dry waste, segregation of waste at source, and transportation of waste. Recyclable dry waste is taken by SWaCH waste pickers to be sold in the recycling market.

Wet waste is composted and non-recyclable dry waste is handed over to Pune Municipal Corporation’s secondary collection system.
