Mandeep Goyat stormed ahead to win the gold medal in the 800m run on the last day of the Maharashtra Athletics Association organized Sub-junior Athletics Meet.

The Pune lad claimed the top prize with a time of 1.57 seconds. Leon Porkhrsandi of Mumbai and Rakesh Sharma of Pune won the silver and bronze respectively in the boys under-18 category.

In the same category,Vijay from Pune won the 200m run,clinching the gold with a time of 23.2 seconds. Ajitsingh Riyang from Aurangabad won silver and Mumbai’s Soham Divadkar won the bronze.

Athletes from Pune had a good day as Aftab Alam claimed the 110m hurdles title followed by Vishal Lakare and Suchit Sawant in second and third place.

In the girls under-18 javelin event,Pune’s Geeta Shinde hurled the javelin over a distance of 33.98 metres to claim the first prize. Rutumbara Jathar of Thane won the silver medal and Zenrukh Dawar of Mumbai came third. In the girls under-20 hammer throw,Preeti Hole flung the hammer over a distance of 34.68 metres to win the gold medal. Pune’s Amrapali Galande came second and Aurangabad’s Surekha Gade came third.
