A large group of students staged an angry protest over the delay in the declaration of the State Eligibility Test (SET) results by the University of Pune, on Friday.
The test was held in the month of December last year, and almost five months on, the students are still awaiting their SET results. As per the rules, the varsity has to declare the results within three months of holding the examination.
Led by youth organisation Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP), students raised slogans against the ‘shoddy’ and ‘disorganised’ way of working of the university. A protest march was also carried out on the occasion from Jaykar library to SET Bhavan on the university campus, in which a large number of affected students participated.
“The University of Pune is hitting a new low in every domain and the huge delay that has been taking place in the declaration of SET results is another worry before students. The SET examination has become objective and despite this, the university is taking such a long time to carry out the assessment. Such inordinate delay has been badly affecting the morale of SET candidates,” ABVP leader Vivekanand Ujlambkar said.
ABVP, which has demanded the declaration of SET results of candidates on the university website.
The UoP is the state agency of the Government of Maharashtra and at the Government of Goa for conducting the SET, qualifying in which is mandatory for candidates aspiring to become lecturers in varsities and affiliated colleges besides fulfilling other academic qualifications. The UoP conducts the SET in around 30 disciplines and there has been almost a multi-fold rise in the number of candidates undertaking the exam in the past few years.
