The final schedule for university elections has been released by the Savitribai Phule Pune University (SPPU) authorities and November 27 is the date for the final counting of votes, according to the notification.

The university recently released the notification, which said that candidates wishing to contest for the six seats under the management representatives and the 10 seats for registered graduates can send their nominations until November 2.

However, though two days have elapsed since the election notification has been issued, not a single candidate has sent in an application so far.

Arvind Shaligram, registrar of Savitribai Phule Pune University, said that it is likely that candidates are adopting a wait and watch policy.

“We expect applications to come in closer to the deadline,” he said.

Even though the university has uploaded the schedule as a ‘tentative’ one, Shaligram said that it is most likely the final schedule. “It is unlikely there would be any major changes now,” he said. Meanwhile, even though the candidates have not yet come forward to register their names, the networking has already begun with ‘panels’ now being formed for the same, under which candidates will contest.

Over 80,000 voters have registered for the Senate elections at SPPU, the highest number registered at any state university. By November 3, the applications of students would be scrutinised, November 6 is the final deadline for withdrawing applications.

When sending their applications, candidates will have to ensure that the applications are accompanied with degree certificates, caste certificate (if applicable), proof of having worked as member of management committee of college in case of management representatives. The university has also released a list of 58 registered voting centres.
