Even as the Aadhaar cards coverage in the district is only 57 per cent enrollment for the district, the district has been asked to start a special drive to link bank accounts for transfer of subsidy with or without the Aadhaar number from October 2.
Earlier Pune was not in the first phase of coverage but after a video-conference of all collectors and commissioners of the state it was decided that Pune too should kick off the initiative from October 2. District Collector Vikas Deshmukh said the drive would be initiated in the entire district.
Only 12 per cent of the total LPG customers bank accounts in the district have been linked. The drive to transfer the subsidy can either be done through the bank seeded number of the Aadhaar card or through Direct Bank Transfer (DBT). Gas agencies have stated that this would be a cumbersome process with most of the applications of the gas holders not having their bank account number.
