Manreet Sodhi Someshwar, the author of ‘The Taj Conspiracy’,was in town to launch her third book at Crossword on Senapati Bapat Road on Friday. ‘The Taj Conspiracy’ is the first installment of the ‘Mehrunisa Trilogy’,a crime thriller interweaved with history. The book follows the protagonist,Mehrunisa as she attempts to uncover a conspiracy around the Taj Mahal. The author had earlier penned ‘Earning the Laundry Stripes’ and ‘The Long Walk Home’,which had received a warm response from the readers and the critics all the same. “At the surface it is a pacy thriller,I want my readers to interpret it in different layers,” says Someshwar. The author suggests that the feminine and fundamentalism are underlined themes in the novels. Commenting on Mehrunisa, the author says,“I was very clear from the beginning that it has to be a female protagonist; the regular, vulnerable woman.” The IIM Kolkata alumnus said that one of her favourite subjects in school was history and therefore when she started to write, history had to be in it. “It is while I started research for my novel I realised the serious dearth of archives in our country.” The author prefers to call herself a full time mother and a full time writer. “You don’t become a mother or a father with the ambition to become the greatest,I think it is the same with my writing ambition,” she says.
