Two months after Pune Cantonment Board (PCB) awarded the security contract for its buildings to a private agency,it has decided to issue a letter asking it to produce relevant documents pertaining to police licence or else face cancellation of the contract.
The action follows Newsline reports that norms were not met. PCB has decided to issue the letter to Khalsa Security Services asking it to produce the memorandum of understanding (MoU) with its sister concern. Khalsa Securities had produced the police licence of its sister concern to bag the contract. Spider Security Services, the lowest bidder had not bagged it. Cantonment officials insist Spider Securities was not given the contract as rates quoted by it per person for did not meet Minimum Wages Act.
PCB chief health superintendent V S Kulkarni said,We are writing to Khalsa Securities to produce the MoU. If not,we will give the contract another agency.” PCB member Aarti Mahajan said the MoU should specify whether Khalsa Securities has been authorised by its sister concern to use its police licence in getting government works.
PCB was initially in favour cancelling the contract and inviting fresh bids. Some members pointed out the contract can’t be cancelled as tenders issued earlier did not specify that the agency needs police licence for the contract.
