With summer setting in,women don’t hesitate to shed their long locks for just the right comfort and style

Pink and Rihanna started it,Priyanka and Bipasha were quick to follow suit. And when everyone thought umbrella is what people identify Rihanna with, she had her other popular feature take over. Rihanna’s hairstyle sparked the craze for short hairstyles and Bollywood could not remain untouched. Neither could style buffs in the city. For what appeared as a raving sensation for short hairstyles had people walking in with posters of Rihanna,Pink and Bipasha to the hair salons.

To top it all,the lethal combo of the onset of summer and the hottest short hairstyle sensations is making the otherwise hesitant women shed their long locks with conviction.

Copy that
Pallavi Sule of Javed Habib’s at FC Road had over a dozen clients walking in with downloaded images of the style icons. “We had people demanding the Rihanna look or the Pink look. Many walked in asking for the new avtaar Bipasha had in her film Aa Dekhen Zaraa,” says Sule.

Close-cropped frames, textured Bobs, asymmetrical fringes, geometrical shapes rule the roost this season. When it comes to short haircuts, however hair designers refuse to name the various styles. For it’s not ‘how many’ short hairstyles that determines the variation. It is the angle that makes the difference. “When it comes to short hairstyles,it is not different names that set them apart. Even if it is a bob cut,it will look totally different because of the angle and the texturing,” she adds.

Age no bar
Women, even elderly ladies, can be spotted wearing various variations in Pixie and bob cut. Long peek-a-boo bangs added to a Rihanna style are already being flaunted by the clients of Headline salon in Aundh. “Different angles of Bob and Pixie are what people are going in for these days. In fact, the ones who come in for a hairdo don’t regret parting with their elbow length hair,” says Joesna Shiroor of Headline. Anjali Bapat,a woman in her mid forties, shed her elbow length hair to get the mid-Pixie look. “When it’s summer, you just can’t bear the volume of the hair around your neck. It is very troublesome. Now I feel light and stylish at the same time. I think people should not hesitate to experiment,” she adds.

Pixie Panache
Elaborating on Bapat’s mid Pixie style Shiroor says,“The hair has been layered and razored over,closed-cropped layers frame the face and close around the ears and neck. All of the layering on the top of the head is long to change the geometry of the hairstyle and to draw attention to the eyes.” The variations in Bob range from classic to textured and so do the variations in Pixie. Wispy or untidy ends, solid fringes and packs give different look to the Pixie cut, whereas different textured layers work the same way for a Bob cut.

Aarti Walia, who adores her new makeover, says her regret on losing her waist length hair vanished the moment she looked at herself in the mirror. Her new haircut,a Bob,made her look much younger. “I felt new and fresh with the look. I have an ‘A-line’ or inverted bob haircut right now, with short, choppier layers and side swept bangs.
