In support of the Concern India Foundation,the Pause for Cause exhibition of textiles will be held from June 21 to June 23.

In support of the Concern India Foundation,the Pause for Cause exhibition of textiles will be held from June 21 to June 23. To be held at the Sonal Hall at Karve Road the exhibition will 20 designers and entrepreneurs,from various parts of India,offering a wide variety of textiles,designer wear,semi precious jewellery and accessories. The event is aimed at helping people help themselves by making them self reliant. The proceeds from the fundraiser will be utilised for funding of children’s education,special care for the differently abled,health care and vocational training for women or shelter for the aged. On display will also be handloom tussore saris,Silk,linen and cotton saris amongst others.

Artistic Beginnings

After having worked in the field of organising exhibitions as well as teaching artist Anant Bhide has organised the ‘Anantrang’ exhibition that is on at the Kalachhaya Campus,in Patrakar Nagar. The exhibition,which began on June 13,presents efforts made by amateur artists and includes paintings that are made in water colour,colour pencils and even charcoal. Bhide says that the exhibition is a paltform for young budding artists who using their brushes and colours come up with unique ways to exhibit their talent. The exhibition will be on from 11 am till 8 pm till June 19.

Of Fact and Fiction

Exploring the unholy alliance between the fourth pillar of democracy,the underworld and the government,debutant author Oswald Pereira’s novel ‘The Newsroom Mafia’,was launched in the city,recently. The launch that was held at Crosswords,on Senapati Bapat Road,saw Pereira,a veteran journalist, speak in detail about the book. The launch was followed by a panel discussion that included authors Ismita Tandon Dhankher Kailash Srinivasan and Sonja Chandrachud. The novel explores the story of a super cop,Donald Fernandez,who goes out all guns blazing to capture Don Narayan Swamy. What follows is a war that involves a private army of thugs,corrupt police officials,power hungry politicians and the media. Pereira also spoke about his days as a journalist and the inspirations behind writing the book.
